Extracting "Who has seen the view"?

Hi,

I looked through the documentation, maybe it's there but i couldn't find it.

Is there a way to extract the breakdown of "Who has seen this view" for each view?

Hello! Thanks for opening this issue. Im not exactly sure if this is what you are looking for but, you could use the following to obtain the total views for each view.

    with server.auth.sign_in(tableau_auth):
        all_views, pagination_item = server.views.get(req_options=None, usage=True)
        print([(view.name, view.total_views) for view in all_views])

This would be a great addition. AFAIK this data only exists in the Postgres Workgroup database so we have to use Psycopg to pull that information in.

This would help streamline things such as archiving stale content with visibility into # users and last date viewed.

Unfortunately this would require a server-side implementation to be created first, but it isn't a priority for the feature team right now.

If this is something you'd like to see prioritised, the best place to raise it is the Tableau Community Ideas forum. Visibility there does factor into product planning, and other users who need the same capability can upvote and add their own use cases.

Cross-referencing #1321 (also asks for enriched per-view usage stats) — that thread adds two useful specifics: the reporter wants per-access timestamps ("which users have been accessing the view and when"), not just the aggregated user list, and suggests a JSON return shape (rather than adding many discrete fields to ViewItem). Same underlying gap as here; noting the additions before closing #1321 as a duplicate.
