build against 19beta3 broken

Building against 19beta3, it gives many compilations errors, 19 betas are out for quite some time. Any attempts by anyone ?

Hi,

Are you building a released 1.6.x version, or building from the head of REL1_6_STABLE? (I really need to create an issue template that asks for versions.)

PR #548 has been merged into REL1_6_STABLE, so if you build that, I am optimistic it will work. There is not a release yet; I need to create release notes and the usual bookkeeping. Java 27 will be GA shortly, so I would like to make one release covering both.
