Summary

This PR adds a proper Mod+A shortcut to select all blocks. Previously, this would defer to browser behaviour as we disable TipTap's own handling with enableCoreExtensions: false. This causes issues in some cases, like when the first block is a check list item.

Additionally, the behaviour is changed slightly. The first Mod+A press selects the full block, and pressing it again selects the whole document.

Closes #2973

Rationale

This is a bug.

Changes

  • Added explicit Mod+A handler.

Impact

N/A

Testing

Added unit tests.

Screenshots/Video

N/A

Checklist

  • Code follows the project's coding standards.
  • Unit tests covering the new feature have been added.
  • All existing tests pass.
  • The documentation has been updated to reflect the new feature

Additional Notes

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Updated the select-all shortcut to select the current block on the first press and the entire document on the second.
    • Improved selection behavior for paragraphs, checklists, and documents containing only checklist items.
    • Ensured selections remain within valid content boundaries and preserve checklist formatting.
    • Pressing Backspace now correctly clears the active selection.

Mod-a first selects the current block content. A second press selects the full document with a bounded TextSelection. Tests cover paragraph and checklist layouts, Backspace deletion, block boundaries, checklist type preservation, and closed math-block popups.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 78df5

Mod+A can still fail when focus is inside a table, preventing users from selecting the block or whole document as intended. This bounded correctness issue should be fixed and covered by regression tests before merging.

A rabbit taps Mod-a twice,
First one block, then all suffice.
Checklists join the gathered span,
Backspace clears the document plan.

@nperez0111 I changed the behaviour to be more similar to Notion based on the CodeRabbit suggestion:

The first Mod+A press selects the full block, and pressing it again selects the whole document.

Wdyt of this?

Handle table block content before creating a TextSelection.

When the current block is a table, the range endpoints resolve inside the table node, not an inline-content node. The first Mod-a reaches TextSelection.create, which emits TextSelection endpoint not pointing into a node with inline content. Resolve the first and last table paragraphs, or use a table-specific selection. Add regression coverage for table selection and the leaf-block whole-document fallback.
